First steps when arriving in Germany
All new arrivals in Saarbrücken must formally register at the Einwohnermeldeamt (Residents’ Registration Office), which is located in the Citizen Center (Bürgeramt) in Saarbrücken, within one week of arrival. The official term for this formal registration is “polizeiliche Anmeldung”.
The Welcome Centre is happy to help international students with a variety of questions regarding housing, living, working, etc.
If you move to a new accommodation in Germany during your stay, you must deregister and then register your new address. Do not forget to deregister at the Residents’ Registration Office before you return to your home country.
